You can explore the farm using this interactive map, which shows some walking routes around the farm and some points of interest:
Our orchard is enclosed all around by a mixed hedge, so it feels secluded but is also in the heart of our working organic farm.
At night it is very dark, so on a clear night it is perfect for star-gazing around the campfire (but do bring a torch!).
As we are an organic farm, environmental stewardship is very important to us, and we are committed to looking after our home and the wider environment. Please help us by separating your recycling when you stay with us.
Campfires
We encourage campfires! Each accommodation and pitch has its own outdoor fire pit, and there is also a larger communal fire pit for exclusive hire groups. You can buy firewood on the farm, and you are also welcome to bring your own logs (no treated wood please). The fire pits have a grill for cooking over the fire.
Parking
For your safety and to preserve the beauty of the orchard for everyone, car parking is nearby in an adjacent field. Wheelbarrows are provided to transport your luggage to your pitch.
Kitchen
The Apple Hut is our communal facilities building, and houses a small kitchenette area with two sinks, three small fridges, two kettles and two toasters. Eco washing-up liquid and soap are provided. Please note that there is no hob or oven; you will need to bring your own cooking stove or you can hire a single-ring portable gas stove from us.
Washroom
Next to the Apple Hut are two washrooms, which each have a compost toilet, wash basin and shower with hot and cold running water. Eco-friendly hand soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided. Please note that only certified biodegradable shampoo and shower gel (e.g. Faith In Nature or Lush) is suitable for use in the showers.
Toilets
As well as the two washrooms, there are two further compost toilet cubicles, and an open-air straw bale urinal.
Energy
Electricity is not available in our accommodation, but is in the Apple Hut where there are sockets you can use for phones etc. All our energy is generated by renewable systems. We have a 6kw wind turbine and a 40kw solar PV array on site, and we are also grid-connected via Good Energy. Please note that we do not offer electric hook-ups.
The wider farm
You are welcome to explore the rest of the farm, which is 117 acres. We have some fantastic bird life, including barn owls, buzzards and skylarks. We also have a small woodland which you can explore.
Local area
Should you wish to explore the local area, there is plenty to do. We are just a few miles from Cambridge, with good cycle paths linking the village to the city. Ely is also close with a fantastic cathedral. Cottenham and the surrounding villages have several good pubs and restaurants. National Trust properties Wicken Fen, Anglesey Abbey and Wimpole Farm are all within half an hour’s drive.
