There is a good cycle path all the way from just outside Cambridge to Cottenham, much of it off road. It takes about 45 mins to an hour to cycle.
By car or bike from central Cambridge (approx 9 miles): Go up Histon road to the A14 roundabout. Take the 2nd exit signposted B1049. Continue on the same road through Impington and Histon, and keep going into Cottenham. All the villages are very long, so if you're cycling just keep going! There is an obvious sign when you enter Cottenham and you will have to leave the cycle path that runs up the right-hand side of the road and cross over. You will come to a mini roundabout at the village green – take the 2nd exit here to continue up the High Street, and then 2nd exit again at the next mini roundabout. Keep going until you get to the pretty church at the top of the high street, and turn left at the mini roundabout there. Go over the speed bumps and continue round the bend, then take the first left onto Smithy Fen. Take care over the narrow bridge!
Continue past all the houses until the road bends to the right – turn left here onto Oxholme Drove (there isn't a road sign, but there is a sign for Fen End Farm). Follow the road to the farm gates and turn left into the yard. Please drive very slowly in the yard as there are horses, dogs and children on-site.
By car from South of Cambridge: take the M11 and come off at J14 onto the A14 East. Stay on the A14 for only one junction, coming off at J32 onto the B1049. Then follow directions above.
The closest train station is Waterbeach, about 6 miles from the farm. If you want to get the train and then cycle, it's best to just get the train to Cambridge and cycle from there – there are no proper cycle paths between Waterbeach and Cottenham, you have to cross the dicey A10 and it will probably take as long as coming from Cambridge anyway! If you're not familiar with Cambridge contact us for cycling directions from the station.
