Cottenham was once famous for it's orchards and several varieties of apple and plum originate from the area. Most of these orchards have been grubbed up and converted to arable or residential land.
We aim to reverse the tide and have started by planting 1.25 acres (0.5Ha) of organic Apple trees as a traditional orchard. The initial planting of 100 trees will be supplemented in future years with local varieties.
The land around the trees is managed as a traditional hay meadow which increases the bio-diversity of the orchard.
Although something of an indulgence we hope the orchard will be commercially viable and we look forward to inviting people to pick, and if they wish, juice apples.
We are members of and strongly support the East of England Apples and Orchards Project.
